About Us (old)

ISHANI Designs is the creation of husband and wife team, Alicia and Ajay.

As a teenager, Alicia would often make her own clothing from second hand Indian saris purchased from op shops or markets. Her creations attracted a lot of positive feedback so she eventually started making clothing to sell to local boutiques.

In her early 20s, Alicia made her way to India for the second time (hello... shopping!) where she met Ajay. Making a quick stop back to Australia to pack up her belongings, she later moved to India where the couple got married in the town of Udaipur also know as the 'city of lakes'.

Living in India and needing an income and a creative outlet, Alicia asked Ajay to help her start a small clothing label to sell online. During this time, they both fell in love with the country's beautiful arts and crafts; a favourite being the traditional textile art of 'hand block printing'. After starting their first business, Alicia and Ajay went on to establish their current clothing label, ISHANI Designs, in 2015. The label would focus primarily on beachy, bohemian women's clothing made from hand block printed fabrics. 

It has always been and still remains extremely important to the couple to stay true to themselves in creating beautiful clothing that isn't defined by fashion trends, but rather wearable pieces of art or 'slow fashion' that will never go out of style. 

ISHANI Designs is based in SE Queensland, Australia and made in Rajasthan, India.
